Bought this to replace the bumper on my 2001 tocoma which the chrome was cracked and rusted around the license plate.
The good:
-I ordered this on a Friday afternoon and it was at the house on Wednesday. It was shipped on Friday so expect 3 business day shipping or less.
-Packed well enough, mine had one very small ding (probably from shipping) but very minor.
-You get new brackets and all the bolts needed.
-It' an exact fit, no jerry rigging needed.
-No help needed to install, a one person job.
The bad:
-Does not come with the plastic screw receptacles for the plate and plate lights so you need to re-use them so don't lose any.
-Nothing to report yet but will have to see how it handles the elements (which was my concern going aftermarket), although I typically give an update good or bad after a while.
Some notes from installing this.
-I belive most of the bolts were 17MM. I had to use a few sizes but I had an aftermarket towing hitch to remove as well which was more work to remove than replacing the bumper. You need 1/2" sockets and a box wrench or preferably an impact gun but you can get by without it unless things are rusted (like my towing hitch).
-First unclip both the license plate electrical connectors. Easiest way is to remove the two phillips head screws on each one and then use a small regular screwdriver to flex back the locking tab while you pull it off. Note you will also need to remove and save the slide in plastic screw receptacles for the license plate lights as well as the ones that hold on the actual license plate. It's much easier to remove these by taking them out rather than pulling off the connectors under the truck to take the lights off later.
-There are only two bolts on each side to remove to the bumper
- Remove the closest to the bumper bolts first (the ones that attach to the frame and not the ones on the bracket that the bumper is bolted to, they have a nut on the other side so may need to put a wrench on that side.
-The other two bolts on each side towards the frame have the nuts welded to the brackets so you just need to back them out about a half inch. Do not take them all the way out as its not neccesary. The bumper can be removed and should be by just loosening these.
-There are some tabs on the bumper bracket that keep it in place so you don't need to manually support it. If you have done the above then you can just pull the bumper off the truck. If you removed the second forward set of bolts all the way then it will fall off so don't be under it.
-Attach the new bracket so the bumper exactly how the brackets on the old bumper where done. The brackets have L and F on them but its from facing forward on the truck so easiest just to duplicate the old bumper bracket configuration.
-The new bumper will slide on the two front bolts, just have it near level so the tabs on the new bracket slide int the frame. This is a one person job as the tabs make it easy and the bumper will hand loose on them.
- Tighten the bolts and make sure before you crank everything down tight that the tailgate will open all the way down without contacting the rubber cover on top of the bumper. I found it easiest to semi tighten the most forward bolts then adjust the bumper height and then crank everything down.
I used an impact wrench on everything and that speeds the process. I didn't do everything in the order I stated but after changing out the bumper it's the easiest way and how I would do it again. Overall major cosmetic upgrade and not a big deal to do. It's fairly straight forward install but I added the install notes from my own experience for anyone that is contemplating doing it themselves.
